Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2+years recent public accounting experience
  • Prior Tax Controversary experience IRS and/or Sales Tax preferred
  • Income tax compliance experience
  • Experience with IRS audits, IRS notices, Sales Tax audit and research, strong analytical skills to conduct tax related research
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal and state tax issues, preparation of US federal and state tax returns
  • Knowledge of computer systems, programs and data retrieval
    Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in all aspects of IRS and SALT projects including audits, appeals, collection, penalty abatement projects, and tax resolution projects
  • Review and analyze client data, respond to information requests, prepare required supporting documents and IRS filings
  • Track statute of limitations, provide technical advice on practice and procedure matters, and communicate with exam team, and clients
  • Regular communication with both the IRS and States, to accurately assess client’s individual and business tax issues
  • Monitor and update the Tax Controversy Department ticket system to manage deadlines and ensure timely responses
  • Prepare written correspondence to clients, the IRS, and ADKF teams
  • Draft responses to notices by federal, state, and local taxing authorities
  • Manage casefiles in a productive, efficient, and organized manner
  • Ability to investigate and diagnose client’s individual and/or business tax problems
  • Draft regular articles and posts for the ADKF website and technical updates related to tax controversy topics
  • Mentor and train less experienced staff
  • Other duties as needed and assigned
