nOnce a year, ADKF comes together to support a charity and do a 5k run to strengthen bonds with our coworkers and community. Kelsie Burdett, CPA, and Tax Senior serves on the board of Alamo Area Partners for Animal Welfare (AAPAW), and suggested Trails Fur Tails 5k. The run occurred Saturday, November 9th, and fun was had by ADKF staff, their dogs, and the community!
Hosted at McAllister Park, runners and their dogs enjoyed a puppuccino station, pet temporary tattoos, mini donuts from the Art of Donut, and more. The amount raised is unknown at this time, but Kelsie stated that their biggest goal was to create awareness and bring in more runners. Participation doubled from previous years, bringing in a total of 95 runners. This doesn’t include the volunteers that helped run stations or worked behind-the-scenes to create a successful event.
“I enjoyed walking around and helping out!” Susan Jentsch, Tax Administrative Assistant, exclaimed. She and her puppy, Darwin, walked around as he wore a donation vest for the event. What really made the day special was her interactions with other volunteers. “Everyone was smiling and willing to help. Everyone had great attitudes.”
AAPAW is completely run by volunteers dedicated to furthering the mission of bringing together other animal welfare organizations, veterinarians, and the community. This includes giving financial assistance to pets that need heartworm medication or needing to be spayed or neutered. With the organization being volunteer-based, Kelsie explained, “Every dollar we get, goes straight towards supporting other rescues.”
