Choosing ADKF for my internship was a no-brainer for me because they are a public accounting firm that is truly “with you all the way.” They really want their interns to do well, and they helped me grow into my Paraprofessional Internship role. The precautions that have been put into place to keep everyone safe from COVID-19 was a great relief for me and my family.
ADKF has taught me to link what I have learned in class with actual hands-on experience. The Paraprofessional Internship was beneficial in exposing me to different tax return forms that relate to the broad spectrum of industries for which ADKF provides services. During the internship, I was able to form an idea of how financial statements need to be grouped together, how to enter the information into the CCH Axcess software, and safely secure files. Also, getting my feet wet in understanding how their accounting software works was key. I found that the most challenging thing for me was conquering the accounting software, but everyone was happy to help me in understanding the process.
Tax season has proven to be a critical time in the accounting profession because of the mandated government deadline of April 15th. My Spring Paraprofessional internship helped me transition into the Summer Tax Internship role by getting familiarized with the tax forms and software ADKF utilizes daily. I am grateful to have been able to start in the Paraprofessional Intern role before going into the Tax Intern role because it shows that ADKF really wants me to thrive and succeed professionally and personally. My mentors at the firm have been a great source of support and for that I am really thankful.
Getting a chance to be exposed to the different types of services ADKF provides has been the most interesting part of my internship experience. This firm provides the possibility of specializing in a sector of accounting for which I may have more enthusiasm. My suggestion for anyone who is looking for an internship in accounting is to apply to ADKF and get the feel for what kind of opportunities await you.
