My experience interning with ADKF has been amazing. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting, and while working on my Master’s in Accountancy, I knew that I needed tax experience before graduating. This was not a requirement for my Master’s; however, I knew that I wanted to be in tax and I figured it would be easier to get an internship while I was still in school.
While searching for internships, I kept seeing great articles about ADKF and decided to apply for the tax internship. I have learned so much in the short time I’ve been working for the firm. This being my first tax internship and experience with tax overall outside of school courses, I started this internship with many worries and uncertainties; but with the help of my buddy (an experienced member of the staff) and other tax staff, I have learned and no longer feel uncomfortable with the work I am doing.
The most beneficial part of my internship with ADKF was my buddy. ADKF assigns a buddy to each intern with the hope they can answer questions and teach the interns. Both buddies I was assigned to were amazing! I felt comfortable enough with them to ask all the questions I had, and they always took the time to explain everything to me. They are the reason I learned so much through this internship, and I am grateful for them!
The one piece of advice I would give to anyone looking for an internship would be to ask questions. Ask ALL the questions because that is how you learn and grow as a professional. ADKF’s culture is great in the sense that they make interns feel safe asking questions. I never felt like a bother to anyone when I asked for help. For anyone looking for an internship, I would tell them to choose a company that has a great culture established so they can ask questions and learn.
The most surprising and challenging part of my internship was experiencing what “busy season” looked like in a CPA firm. I never imagined seeing so many different returns and had to learn how to manage my time in a very detailed way. I am an organized person, but this was next level. To keep up with everything you need to have an amazing system, and I was able to create mine with ADKF.
I’m very happy I applied with ADKF and am grateful for all the growth and learning opportunities I’ve had with the firm. I am honored that I get to work with awesome people and can’t wait to come on full time once I graduate! If you are looking for an internship in tax, I would highly recommend applying with ADKF!
